HURRAH!! Covid checked by vaccines! League Tennis allowed again!
It was a glorious moment when the lockdown was lifted and eager tennis players could look forward to a season of matches once again.
No Face to Face meetings were allowed so no A.G.M. Phone calls were the quickest way to plan the new season. The 2019 League Officers remained in situ. Ian Hodgkinson remained the Chairman and Pauline Ashton as Match Secretary. Gary Atkinson was ready to put details on the Website. Both Stan and Sue Bleakley wanted to resign from their Offices but agreed to stay for another year in view of all the problems which might arise. Caroline Whelan stayed as Cup Organiser.
The teams wanting to play were put into Three Divisions and fixtures arranged. The season was successful. The weather was reasonably kind. But Covid 19 had not been eradicated. A new variant virus was discovered – Delta. Fortunately, all the League matches and the Cup Matches were completed before Lockdown was introduced again.
Claremont Tennis Club held a Presentation Event for the Walkden League at their Club which was thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended. It also presented an opportunity to celebrate the Centenary of the Walkden and District Tennis League. 1922 – 2022

The Annual General Meeting in March 2022 will herald a new era…the first year of a new century. Here’s hoping all will go well for players and supporters making Walkden and District Tennis League flourish again.
The Website is running well and all future records will be archived on it. Remember to send information about your matches, events, and stories about players and photos. Make the Website interesting to read. It will be YOUR HISTORY.
My job as Historian is finished. All the information I gathered and past Trophies are with Chairman Ian Hodgkinson. It has been an extremely interesting and enjoyable task but at times very challenging. I have lots of marvelous memories and made a tremendous number of wonderful friends. I have been proud to be a member of Walkden and District Tennis League. All the best for the future.
