Walkden & District Tennis League – AGM 15th March 2022
Change to League Match Rules of Play
10.7 League matches shall consist of eight sets, each set to be won by the first pair to reach eight games (for the first two weeks of the season it will be each set to be won by the first pair to reach six games unless both Team Captains agree to play to eight games). Matches shall be decided on the aggregate of games won ……………………etc……………….etc………………………….
General Notes
Rule 10.9 sets out commencement and order of play of the matches. The rule was made when most matches were played on two courts. Due to the reduced number of teams in the league most matches are now played on three or more courts. Rule 10.9 has not been changed but when more than two courts are available Team Captains should be flexible to ensure continuity of play.
Here are a few notes from queries raised at the 2022 AGM:
• The match only needs to start with one gent’s doubles and one ladies doubles.
• Although all players should try to be available for the start of the match the second pair of gent’s or ladies only need to ready to play when the first gent’s or ladies set has finished.
• When playing on more than two courts additional sets need only be played when the players are available.
• The AWAY Team Captain chooses the order of play.
• All players should be available and playing at least their first set on completion of the first round of sets irrespective of using two or more courts.
